This painting tells of my memories of camping the the mouth of the Holroyd River as a small child. My grandparents, Aunties, Uncles, Mum, Dad and all the children would travel north from Pormpuraaw to the Holroyd River. We would walk along the beach. The men would have our supplies in a dingy and drag it in the shallow water. When we would come to a river mouth the dingy would be used to row everyone and everything across safely. We would set up camps along the way and it could take many days to get there. Once we reached our homelands at the Holroyd River we would stay for a few months. We had our camps and shelters there. We would fish and hunt. This was a wonderful time with our family. |
