When we say the "Old Ones" we are talking about our ancestors. This includes our grandfathers and beyond. We are connected to all of them. They are deceased now but their spirits now are part of our traditional country. They have become their totems. They lived a simpler life then ours; no distractions, no TV, no cigarettes. Fishing is one of our favourite things to do in Pormpuraaw. We are blessed with lots of Barramundi and Salmon and other fish. In the old days we would use spears but nowadays we mainly use landlines or rods. We love to catch fresh fish and hunt for yams which we love to cook fresh on the fire at the beach together as a family. We take the children with us and teach them everything we know. |
