I remember growing up in Aurukun. My people left Pormpuraaw to live there. It was like living in two worlds. My old people wanted to teach me bush ways. Missionaries wanted me to live in a dormitory and not speak my language. It was hard to know how to live. I remember the rivers being full of fish and eating good bush food. I remember how my grandparents took extra special care of all us kids. |
