Fish Feast is a painting that celebrates a house opening, When someone passes away we close their country and do not speak their name for a year or so. We are not allowed to speak the deceased person's name. In the old days it could last many years. In the old days we would burn their humpy so the spirit could be set free. Now a days we close the house up and the widow stays in side. Eventually the relatives decide that it is time to celebrate the person's life and reopen their house. We dance and sing and with ceremony speak the deceased persons name again. We have a big feast. Our favourite food being fresh fish from the sea. |
