'Minha Ko'an' is the Kugu word for Magpie Geese. These are large powerful birds. They live here in abundance when the wet season is here. The wet season allows for lots of grasses and plants which are their main source of food. Our old people used to hunt them with spears while hiding behind a branch held in front of them. Some people still hunt them but now they use a shotgun. Many people gather the eggs from their nests, they are larger than a chicken's egg and taste similar. Magpie geese are an important totem for us. We are both custodian's of country.
