I call this etching Spirit Shell. Our people believe everything has a spirit. Spirits are all around us all the time. We can see them and feel them. Everything is a totem for us including sea shells found on the beach. This shell we call a bailer shell. A big one was very valuable for our old people. They could use it to carry water and boil water in a fire. It got its name because people would use it to bail out water from their canoes. |
