| Swamp Turtles are called Minh Kaay in my Thaayorre language. They live in the freshwater waterholes on my homelands. They have a pointy nose and long tail. They are an important food source for our people. We usually hunt them with spear in the wet season. In the dry season we probe down in the mud with a digging stick till we hit their shell. Then we know where to dig. We cook then in their shell on the hot coals of a fire; beautiful meat. |
