| Barramundi are a big totem for Pormpuraaw. They own this place and we belong to them. We catch many in our rivers and sea. They can grow extremely large. They are delicious to eat especially when we cook them on the coals of a fire on the beach. When we catch a big one we love to share it with all our families and friends. Salmon are a wonderful fish and an important totem for our people. We have two kinds the thread fin and the blue salmon. We love to fish for them with line, net or spear. These fish have big bone spurs around their fins. Our old people would grind this up and use it for body paint. |
