Captain Cook's boat was called the Endeavour. It never came to our side of the Cape York Peninsula. It landed on the east side in a place we now call Cooktown. Aboriginal people tried to ignore him and his crew hoping they would leave. They would not leave until their boat was fixed. They tried to trade metal tools and fish hooks with local Aboriginal people. It was against our laws to take any of that stuff and we would not trade with them. After Captain Cook and his boat left people burned all the country for months. They were purifying and cleaning the country of them. Too bad they came back. |
