Crocodiles are a big totem for our people. That means he owns all this country including all the people and animals that live here. They can grow to large size and sometimes attack people or dogs. We have to be very careful when around water where they live especially with children. Our old people used to harvest crocodile eggs for food. Sometimes we still gather them but need to be very careful. Our old people were crocodile sorcerers and had them as pets. These crocodiles would hunt food like wallaby and Barra and drop it at their feet. A sorcerer could ride on the back of their crocs to cross a river. Now there are no such men left. |
