Dilly Bags are very important to our country. A dilly bag takes weeks to prepare. We gather the palm frond from a cabbage palm tree. We separate it till we get the inner most strands. Then we let it dry die it role the strands on the thigh and then weave it by hand with no loom. My mother used to make dilly bags. When I was young she showed me. Now I like to make prints and paintings of dillybags to help remind me of the old ones and old ways. |
