"Dilly bags were very important to our old people. A good dilly bag could take weeks to make from natural fiber and were used to carry bush food when traveling. One of our most important bush foods were yams. Yams were cooked on the coals of a fire and are delicious to eat. We still gather them and love to cook them. Nowadays we like to cook them in casseroles. Digging a yam can is a lot of work. Big ones can be a metre down. The best way to dig them is by hand no shovel. A shovel can damage them or the root that connects them to the surface stem and leaves. They are precious to us."
