|This is a story we all know. We think it happened in early 1900. It was first European contact. A family was camping on the beach by the mouth of Christmas Creek. A strange boat pulled up and everyone was scared and and hid in the bush. One old man was asleep and didn't know what was going on. These strange white men came out of their boat and woke him up. They were looking for fresh water. He helped them find some water and they gave him sugar, flour, tea, tobacco and a handkerchief. After the white men left he was angry at all the people for leaving him. We all learned this story from our parents and grandparents. Our old people thought that the Europeans were ghosts.
