| Ngakayangka is my Great Grandmother’s traditional homeland on the coast north of Pormpuraaw. The land has swamps with many tea trees. We call these trees Yuku Wati in Kugu language. We are forbidden to take bark off the trees in this area. This knowledge and tradition that has been passed from generation to generation. If we disturb the bark of the Yuku Wati trees there will be a plague of jellyfish in the area. This will make it hard to catch fish for our food. |
