| 'Obalow' is a Wik word we use for a half human half fish person. English people call it a mermaid. An obalow is more like a spirit that lives in freshwater. We have a sacred site that has a lava rock that looks like a fish tale. This is where a man captured one and made it his wife. Many people here have stories about obalows. For us we celebrate it in painting and carving. |
