Puffer Fish are commonly found in the waters of the coast around Pormpuraaw and throughout the Gulf of Carpentaria.

While we often catch them when we drag a net, we don't eat them and usually send them back to their habitat. The language name for Pufferfish is Kung Ku, and we also use this word to describe overweight people.

I have made this work using ghost net, recycled cable, fast clips, acrylic and enamel paint. I hope that making art from these materials will help raise awareness both nationally and internationally, of the environmental impact of ghost nets in our oceans. The Gulf of Carpentaria is a fertile fishing ground for small and large -scale fishing enterprises and a as a result, a hotspot for ghost nets. Most of the ghost nets found on Australian coasts come from Thai, Vietnamese, South Korean and Chinese boats operating illegally in the Arafura Sea and Timorese Sea.
