This story teaches us about who comes from which country, who is a Freshwater person, who is a Saltwater person. It tells us where our homeland is, where we belong and who we are related to. Every song that the Saltwater Crocodile (Minh Pinche) and Freshwater Crocodile (Minha Kenhe) sing on their journey becomes part of a song cycle that has been passed down through the ages. We sing it when a person dies to help his/her spirit find its way back to its ancestral homeland. People who come from inland, freshwater country, are slim like their Freshwater Crocodile ancestor. Saltwater Crocodiles lay many eggs because their ancestors had so many wives. Freshwater crocodiles only lay 7 – 10 eggs. |
