The Kugu language name for Saw fish is 'Kampenyinh'. This fish can grow to 4 metres long and was once plentiful in our waters. Unfortunately it is now seldom seen because of overfishing with nets. This fish is is celebrated by story, song and dance. Grieving people are not allowed to eat it. This fish is callable of swimming far up stream into freshwater. It uses its bill hunt fish. My old people would use it as a sword when fighting. |
