A Thaayore story is that on the south of the Chapman River there is a sacred space for sting ray. Big people clean and rake this space, using yellow pandanus leaves, preparing this site for sting ray ceremony. Sting ray are important to us as they are a protector. They let us know there is a cyclone coming by making a thunder sound & he also wrestles the lightning and keeps it out at sea so it doesn't strike people. |
