This print is about a dance called 'Withirrmun' in my Thaayorre language. It is the possum dance or bora dance. Bora means sacred ground. It belongs to all the clans. It is a sacred dance that is not open to everyone, only initiated men and Elders can participate in it. Sometimes boys were allowed to watch and learn. When the Elders were finished dancing they blessed the boys with their underarm smell. Next time the boys will be allowed to join in the dancing. They dance all night like a possum. They stop dancing at dawn and move to the bora ground and dance a different dance.
