Collection: Paintings

There was no rock art painting or bark painting in the Pormpuraaw area. The people painted their bodies and their tools. Modern-day painting with acrylics started less than two decades ago. Our artists all paint differently; there is not one style or technique. We are not dot painters, X-ray or cross-hatch painters. This is not our culture. Painting is a new type of language and way of telling stories for us. Our artists like to paint their totems and landscape. Many works have been collected by major museums and important collectors.
